SHARP BITS MAGAZINE

The Sharp Bits Magazine was a monthly publication by the Homestake Mining Company, beginning in 1950 and ending in the mid-1970s. Usually, the magazine had a monthly theme, aways focused on Homestake endeavors from Main Street in Lead to operations across the world.

The magazine contained captioned pictures with most of them showing employees performing work, with their names proudly displayed. Often the closing pages had photos of groups of employees receiving safety performance recognition or service awards. The magazine was enjoyed throughout the community and even today, some Homestake veterans can be identified from their youthful days.

The Lead Historic Preservation Commission has recreated this edition of Sharp Bits magazine, gathering a set of photographs focusing on the City of Lead and the Homestake Mine. Each photograph has the original caption and the Sharp Bits issue, date and title.
